ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ is delighted to announce that the TV show, EdCast, produced and hosted by Professor Linda Hirsch, has won a . The winning episode of EdCast, titled “We the People: Civics Matters,” was chosen from over 13,000 entries at the , and competed in the Education & Training category.
On the show, Professor Hirsch was joined by ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ Political Science Professor Dr. Helen Chang and Psychology Professor Dr. Mariana DÃaz-Wionczek to discuss why civics education matters, how we can help even our youngest learners understand its principles, and innovative ways we can bring it back into our classrooms and communities. Currently, fewer than half of Americans can name the three branches of government, and civics education has faded from the curriculum at a time when civic engagement is needed more than ever.

Host Linda Hirsch, Ph.D., is a professor of English at ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡/CUNY. She is an expert on writing across the curriculum and literacy development. Professor Hirsch has taught graduate students at Columbia University Teacher's College, New York University and the CUNY Graduate Center. She is the producer/host of EdCast on CUNY TV and the web. She has served as a content consultant on PBS's television series, Ghostwriter, and as an education consultant and producer of an education segment on BronxNet's Open, a live cable television program.
