Equitable Opportunity Promotion

At ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ Career Services, we promote opportunities widely,  not selectively, so every student has equal access. Our practice is aligned with NACE Principles, the NCDA Code of Ethics, and powered by Handshake.

1. Our Equitable Approach

Three commitments that shape every opportunity we promote. ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ Career Services believes every student deserves equal visibility into career opportunities regardless of background, network, or prior contact with our office. Our equity practice is built around three core commitments.
  • Broad Promotion:  Every opportunity is shared across multiple channels so all eligible ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ students see it not just a select few.
  • No Pre-Selection: We don't screen, shortlist, or recommend specific students. Applicants succeed on their own merit and interest.
  • Personalized Support: Any student who expresses interest meets 1-on-1 with a career advisor to put forward their strongest application.

Why this matters at ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡: Many of our students are first-generation college students, working adults, or balancing multiple responsibilities. Equitable access is foundational to our mission as an educational change agent in the South Bronx.

2. Our Promotion Process

A consistent four-step workflow for every opportunity we receive

For every opportunity that comes through our office, we follow the same transparent workflow, so no student is advantaged simply by being "in the know."

5. What We Do — and What We Don't

Equitable promotion has clear boundaries. Here's what students, faculty, and employer partners can expect from us and what we won't do.

✓ What We Do

  • Post every opportunity to ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ Handshake
  • Send Navigate communication campaigns
  • Notify academic departments through Career Advisor Leads
  • Offer 1:1 prep support to any interested student
  • Honor employer-set transparent eligibility criteria
  • Document every promotion step for accountability

✕ What We Don't Do

  • Hand-pick or "tap" specific students for opportunities
  • Share opportunities only with a private list
  • Screen résumés before forwarding to employers
  • Endorse or rank student candidates
  • Bypass standard channels for select employers
  • Make hiring decisions on behalf of employers
  • Restrict opportunities based on background or network

6. How We Support Every Interested Student

Equal access plus equal preparation

  • Equity means giving every ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ student a fair shot, which includes equipping them with strong applications. Any interested student can book time with a career advisor for:
  • Resume Review & Updates: Tailored feedback aligning your resume with the specific role or industry you're applying to.
  • Interview Preparation: Mock interviews, behavioral question coaching, and industry-specific interview strategy.
  • Online Application Help: Walk-throughs and assistance with ATS systems, cover letters, and supplemental materials.
  • Ongoing Career Guidance: Strategic conversations about fit, next steps, and parallel opportunities throughout your search.
