鈥淛ulia VIVE鈥� is a feature-length dramatic documentary celebrating the life, work, and enduring legacy of Puerto Rican poet and patriot Julia de Burgos (1914鈥�1953). Blending the lyricism of fiction with the depth of documentary, the film captures her journey through Cuba and New York (1939鈥�1953)鈥攜ears that shaped both her art and her activism.
Through vivid reenactments and intimate interviews with leading scholars and artists, "Julia VIVE" brings to life her brilliance, spirit, and revolutionary voice. Enriched by rare archival footage and the heartfelt support of her family, the film is a vibrant homage to the woman whose poetry鈥攁nd courage鈥攕till resonate today.
Julia de Burgos (a free spirit light-years ahead of her time), broke the mold that early 20th century society had had set in place for women. Born and raised in the dire poverty of 1914 Puerto Rico, Julia surmounted many challenges, becoming a rural educator, a renowned poet and journalist, an assertive freedom fighter and a brave defender of workers鈥� and women鈥檚 rights.
